    Whether you want to work in a long day care centre or in your own home under the family day care scheme, MCFE will give you all the skills to feel confident and competent in  the workplace, learning all aspects of childcare, from providing for care to babies, toddlers and children including assisting with routines, facilitating play to planning and implementing programs that support children’s development.

    Module Overview

    Module 1 Legal and Ethics Learn the skills and knowledge required to identify and work within the legal and ethical framework that applies to your individual job role as an educator. We also discuss legal and ethical responsibilities such as duty of care and go through scenarios relevant to the workplace.
    Module 2 Learning Frameworks Belonging, Being and Becoming is the national approved early years learning framework from birth to five years of age, which aims to extend and enrich children’s learning experiences and gives them the best start to life. Learn the principles and practices that make up this framework and how to apply in to children’s learning.
    Module 3 Cultural Diversity Working in childcare means being aware and inclusive of different cultural practices and requirements. We will look at our own perspectives and how to promote understanding across diverse groups, including activities with children that explore different cultures, heritage, background and tradition.
    Module 4 Keeping Children Safe Creating a safe environment, administration of medications, sun safety and infection control are just some of the skills we go through. We will also discuss protecting children and their rights including identifying children at risk of neglect or abuse as well as reporting requirements.
    Module 5 Healthy Diets Learn the skills and knowledge to promote healthy eating, ensure hydration levels are met and plan food and drinks that are nutritious and appropriate for each child. You will also learn about food safety, including food handling techniques.
    Module 6 Caring for Babies and Toddlers Safe and quality care for children from birth to 24 months ensure that the children’s physical and emotional wellbeing is maintained. Implement safe sleep practices, providing positive nappy changing and toileting experiences and develop positive relationships with babies and toddlers and their families.
    Module 7 Caring for Children Caring for children over 2 years of age is focused on maintaining physical and emotional wellbeing. Learn strategies to build self-sufficiency, protecting the child’s self-esteem and helping them deal with change. Promote and provide a physical environment and understand principles of scaffolding for learning and development.
    Module 8 Relationship Building Developing and maintaining effective relationships and promoting positive behaviour to create an environment that supports and respects children. Learn techniques to guide children’s behaviour and identify children’s cues to guide level and type of involvement in their play and learning.
    Module 10 First Aid After these sessions you will be able to provide basic first aid and CPR in any situation whether it be a child, adult or elderly person, including asthma and anaphylactic emergencies. You will also learn about incident reporting, workplace forms and evaluating the incidents and impacts to children and staff.
    Module 11 Health and Safety This module covers legislations, workplace policies and procedures as well as identifying risks and hazards, how to assess level of danger and reporting any incidents or concerns. We also go through how to promote safe work practices and reflect on your own levels of stress and fatigue.
    Module 12 Personal Development Reflect on your own professional practices, self-evaluating and reflecting on your performance and outlook. Access and stay up to date with industry news and regularly review your own practices. Determine any improvements or gaps of knowledge you may have and create a plan setting goals and targets to achieve.
    Module 13 Children's Behaviour Observe and collect data to assist in developing strategies to support children who require additional support. Understand how to identify any areas of concern and use positive support techniques to redirect unwanted behaviour and defuse situations. Gain knowledge of the difference between disruptive behaviour and behaviours of concern and how learning difficulties or mental health issues may affect behaviour.
    Module 14 Sustainability Maximise children’s connection with the environment and support children to develop an understanding and respect for nature around them. Be able to identify changes in workplace procedures to enhance environmental sustainability.
    Module 15 Development Support the physical, social, emotional, cognitive and communication development of children aged from birth to 6 years old in a holistic manner by providing the opportunity for scaffolding learning and development. Use routines to practice skills and develop their fine and motor skills, create opportunities for one on one interaction and join in play modelling best practice. Provide children strategies to make informed choices and express their feelings safely and appropriately.
    Module 16 Inform Practice Gather information by observing, listening and talking to children for a sustained period, identifying interests, ideas knowledge and skills. Learn how to be objective and not include biased comments and use information gathered to plan programs that promote children’s learning and development.
    Module 13 Play and Learning Creating safe, challenging environments for children to play and learn enhance their development. Understand different types of play, assist children to participate in a variety of experiences and knowing how to respond to children’s reactions ensures each child remains interested and challenged but not frustrated by play and learning.

    Gaining the Early Childhood Education and Care certification will assure you have the essential skills and knowledge needed to excel in today’s today’s childcare profession. We employ trainers that are current in the industry, either running their own businesses or working as authorised supervisors and mentors in childcare centres, Trainers who are able to give you insight into the industry and daily demands and are current on best practice in the industry.

    How many hours placement am I required to do?

    Practical placement is on the job training that you undertake during your course. This is a fantastic opportunity to practice the skills you are learning in the classroom in a supported manner.

    MCFE requires you to complete 120 hours in the workplace in total and your trainer will visit you in the workplace to discuss any questions you have or go over training, and to observe and assess competency in skills towards the end of your placement hours.

    How long will it take me to complete this course?

    The course is delivered over 32 face-to-face sessions with 1 session held each week. In addition to face-to-face classes you will be required to undertake self paced learning, which is approximately 16 hours on average per week.

    It is expected that the course could take you 12 months to complete, though this can vary from person to person.

    What are the pathways available from this course?

    You can go on to complete the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care, which could lead to you being a room leader, authorised supervisor, area coordinator or manager of a child care centre.

    There is also degrees available to become an Early Childhood teacher, Kindergarten teacher or Centre Director.

    Do I have to pay my fees all at once?

    No, you don’t have to pay upfront as we have payment plans are available for you. Simply complete the payment plan form when you enrol and nominate a bank account and we can set it up for you.

    Please be aware that no certificates will be issued until fees are paid in full.

    When will I receive my First Aid certificate?

    Your first aid statement of attainment is issued within a week of competently completing the units, providing any fees have been paid in full.
